National Federation of Fish Friers Associations
The fish and chip industry is an ever-evolving landscape of food, tradition and innovation. As representatives of the industry, the National Federation of Fish Friers is always at the forefront of embracing change and ensuring that fish and chip shops are operating in the most modern and sustainable way. That’s why we are proud partners of the Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo, which seeks to inform these businesses how to grow and stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technology, to keep an industry with 160 years of heritage current we have to be constantly evolving.
At the NFFF, we have recognised that a secure future of fish and chips relies on more than just taste. It is essential that we proactively work to preserve the world’s oceans, reduce waste and recycle at every stage of the process.
One of the cornerstones of our sustainability initiative is to source seafood responsibly. We encourage all our members to choose suppliers who prioritise sustainable fishing practices. This means we choose fisheries that are well managed to ensure that overfishing is prevented, and the oceans ecosystems are preserved.
We also actively promote the reduction of wastage within the industry. We offer crucial guidance for fish and chip shops to minimise waste by accurately portioning their food and advising on stock amounts and storage.
These efforts go beyond just food as eco-friendly packaging is equally important to the sustainability of fish and chips. Following the single use plastic ban on the 1st October, many of our businesses must adapt to new, recyclable packaging solutions. We will support our members through this change and point them towards appropriate alternative suppliers.
The NFFF offers a membership programme that is open to any fish and chip business. As a member, you will have direct access to industry experts who will be able to answer your questions and guide you in the right direction for all things fish and chips – we even offer legal advice and protection. As well as this, you will be able to take advantage of many discounts and exclusive offers only available to members.
By far the most important benefit however is that you will have a voice within the industry. The NFFF works collaboratively with its members to protect and promote the interests of fish and chips. By being a member, you will be able to have your say on the future and direction of the industry.
